I am a fan of (some of) the music of the enigmatic band (whoismgmt.com), and while the use of their moniker is somewhat of an SEO experiment, this post is not about them. It is about three observations about management I would like to share.

#1 - understanding

The key to unlocking the potential of any team lies in understanding who the people on that team are. This can be done through observation, assessments, or even screaming “who are you” at them over and over again until they answer. Whichever way you choose, they all work (well, maybe don’t choose to scream).

#2 - the best interest

Make decisions that are in the team's best interests, as a whole, and as an individual. This creates an environment where people buy in and trust is built. And when you downplay things that feel too focused on the leader or company, your team will feel that impact.

#3 - achieve

Focusing effort on #1 and #2, and quite frankly making that your top priority in management, allows the team to achieve more. Why? Because a team that is understood and has trust will achieve more together for an organization than any number of individuals doing things on their own.
